Five-sided and framed by a thick cell wall, this plasmolysed plant cell shows the inner contents pulled away from the wall as water leaves. The shrunken membrane clings by thin strands to the corners, wrapping a deflated central vacuole and a round nucleus with a visible nucleolus. Oval chloroplasts with stacked grana and mitochondria with folded ridges ring the cell. Clear and realistic, it is an excellent model for teaching osmosis in a cell biology class or for showing the difference between healthy and wilted plant cells.
