A regal Egyptian sphinx rests on a stepped rectangular plinth, its lion body stretched out with forepaws laid flat side by side. The pharaoh head wears a pleated nemes headdress with a rearing cobra at the brow and a long braided false beard, and has a calm face. Ribs and shoulder muscles show along the flanks, and the tail curls neatly around one haunch. The molded plinth gives it a museum look, suited to a display shelf, a desert tabletop scene or an ancient history classroom.
