Mid-meal and stretching in several directions, this amoeba model shows a single cell engulfing food by phagocytosis. Lobed pseudopods flow outward from the lumpy body, and one curls around a textured food particle, closing it into a pocket. Across the surface sit a large rounded nucleus, a contractile vacuole, oval mitochondria and scattered vesicles. The soft, uneven texture feels convincingly alive. A great hands-on model for microbiology and cell biology lessons, or a quirky display on a science shelf.
