Spreading in every direction, this melanocyte cell model shows a central body with an oval nucleus surrounded by a cluster of raised melanin granules. Long arborized processes branch out again and again, each ending in small rounded tips, so the cell looks almost like a tree or coral. The cell is modeled on bioelectricity research where changing a cell's voltage turns it into a highly branched pigment cell.
