Ambulocetus, the walking whale ancestor, is sculpted here as a long-snouted four-legged animal caught mid-stride, with a heavy body and a long tapered tail. The jaw line is marked with small teeth, and raised eye bulges sit on top of the skull. Each of the four muscular limbs ends in a broad webbed foot with a cluster of rounded toes, and the back carries soft ridges and creases. The pose suggests an animal moving between land and water. It suits a paleontology shelf, a classroom evolution display, or a prehistoric diorama beside other extinct mammals.
