Ichthyostega, an early four legged vertebrate, is sculpted mid stride with a broad flat head, wrinkled neck folds and a long ridged tail edged with a fin. Each stout limb ends in a splayed foot with separate toes, and the back carries rough textured skin with fine grooves along the spine. The pose is natural and balanced, with the head turned slightly and the tail sweeping behind.
