A sliced ammonite fossil shows its coiled shell opened up to reveal the chambered spiral inside. Raised septa radiate from a tight central coil, each edged with wavy suture lines that trace the walls between the chambers, while a raised rim frames the whole spiral and a smooth body chamber sweeps out at the wide end. The back is smooth and carries a small lettered mark along the edge. As an ammonite cross section it sits well on a fossil display shelf, a desk, or in a classroom lesson on prehistoric sea life.
