Two homologous chromosomes stand side by side in this meiosis tetrad model, each made of a pair of sister chromatids joined at a rounded centromere. The inner arms twist across each other, showing crossing over at the chiasmata where genetic material is swapped, with fine seam lines marking the exchanged segments. Every arm has a lumpy, organic surface that looks like packed chromatin. It suits a biology classroom, a genetics study desk or a science display explaining why siblings are never quite identical.
