Opened along its length, this colon segment shows a colon cancer tumor as an ulcerated, cauliflower-like mass rising from the lining. Long mucosal folds run down the inner wall, a clear layered rim marks the cut edges, and bulging lobes of fat cling to the outside. The lumpy tumor stands out sharply against the ridged lining, making the disease easy to point out.
