A low-slung Civil War ironclad with a round revolving turret rising from the middle of its flat raft deck. The turret is crowned by a railed lookout ring, while the weathered deck carries a small lifeboat, an angled deckhouse, a pyramid hatch, vents, bollards and run of rigging lines. Below the waterline the hull narrows to a keel, with an anchor hanging at the bow and twin propellers and a rudder at the stern. The USS Monitor makes a great centrepiece for a naval history shelf, a classroom lesson on the Civil War, or a river battle wargame table.
