A leaf cross section block shows every layer of a leaf in one neat rectangular slice. The top surface is a quilt of flat epidermal cells, above a row of tall, packed palisade cells dotted with chloroplasts. Below, loose spongy mesophyll cells leave open air spaces, and a round vein bundle sits among them. Along the bottom layer, paired guard cells frame open stomata. It is a clear botany teaching model for a classroom and a handsome specimen for a science display shelf.
