Fringed with dense cilia all around its edge, this protist cutaway shows the inner workings of a single-celled organism, centered on its contractile vacuole. Radiating collecting canals feed a star-shaped central bladder at one end, while the opened interior reveals a large nucleus, bean-shaped mitochondria, stacked membranes and dozens of round vesicles. A small pore sits at the far end. Great for microbiology and cell biology classrooms, or as a detailed display piece for science fans.
