Cut as a neat block, this intestinal villi cross section shows how the small intestine wall grows its huge absorbing surface. Rows of finger-like villi rise from the top, each sliced open to reveal branching capillaries and a central lacteal. Below them sit the crypts, then layered bands of tissue and muscle fibres with tiny vessels running through. The wavy texture and clear layering make it an excellent hands-on teaching model for an anatomy or nutrition class, or a striking piece for a science display.
