A sickle cell anemia capillary cutaway opens one side of a small blood vessel to show what happens inside. Round, dimpled red cells drift in at one end, then crowd into a jam of curved, crescent-shaped sickle cells that block the channel. The vessel wall is sculpted with flattened lining cells and their nuclei, and the outer surface has a rough, organic texture. It works well as a teaching model for a biology or health classroom and as a conversation piece on a science display shelf.
