Standing ready with a leaf-bladed short sword held low, a Spartan hoplite faces the enemy behind a broad round shield. A tall crest sweeps over his Corinthian helmet, a heavy cape falls in deep folds from a round shoulder clasp, and a diagonal strap crosses his bare, muscled chest. Below the pleated armoured skirt he wears shin greaves and strapped sandals, with every toe and finger clearly sculpted. He makes a strong front-rank hero for ancient battle wargames, a Greek warrior in a tabletop campaign, or a striking piece for a history shelf.
