Middle ear infection is easy to explain with this cutaway of the ear canal, eardrum and middle ear cavity. The section shows the honeycombed bone of the skull around the canal, a stretched, bulging eardrum and the swollen cavity behind it. The tiny chain of ossicles sits clearly in place, linking the drum to the inner ear structures. A wedge-shaped block with no base, it lies flat or props up nicely, making it a strong teaching piece for an anatomy class, a clinic desk or a student studying otitis media.
