Here is the Gloire, the French ironclad frigate that mixed steam power with a full sailing rig. Its long armored wooden hull has a row of gunports along each side and a single squat funnel standing amidships. Three tall masts rise above it with yards, tops and fine standing rigging running out to a long bowsprit, and the deck shows hatches, boats and other fittings. It makes a fine shelf piece for naval history fans, a centerpiece for a collection of early steam warships, or a talking point when teaching how sail gave way to armor.
