Long and slender, this high-altitude reconnaissance jet shows a chined fuselage that tapers to a needle nose spike. Two tandem canopies sit behind the nose, and a pair of large engine nacelles with spiked inlet cones are mounted mid-wing, each topped by a canted tail fin. Fine panel lines, access hatches and exhaust vents cover the airframe, and the underside is solid and smooth. It makes a striking desk or shelf piece for aviation fans and Cold War collectors, and works well in a classroom as an engineering showcase of a famous speed-record aircraft.
