An owl lantern with a body pierced by leaf-shaped openings that would let candlelight spill out in a soft pattern. The round, wide-set eyes sit in carved feather discs, with tufted ears, a small beak and a fanned tail of long layered feathers. The head is a separate cap with an open hollow beneath, so a light can sit inside the body. Folded wings are cut with the same lacy openwork, and the bird perches on two clawed feet. It suits a shelf, mantel or table as a decorative owl piece, and the thick smooth ribs between the cutouts keep the lattice sturdy.
