A male American kestrel stands alert atop a weathered tree stump, head turned slightly as if scanning the field below. Every feather is sculpted in layers, from the spotted breast and crisp facial stripes to the long folded wings and banded tail that drops past the stump. Strong talons grip the deeply grooved bark, and the tall stump doubles as a sturdy scenic base.
