Coelacanth sculpted mid-swim with the fleshy, lobed fins that set this ancient fish apart from ordinary ones. The body is covered in heavy overlapping scales, and the head carries ridged armor plates with a round eye and a downturned mouth. Two dorsal fins, paired pectoral and pelvic fins, an anal fin and a three-lobed tail are all sculpted with ribbed rays and soft rounded bases.
