STEP, the ISO 10303 exchange format behind SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Onshape and FreeCAD, describes exact CAD solids, but a file from a supplier or an old assembly can still turn into a leaky mesh with overlapping bodies. STEP Repair reads the part, fills any gaps, joins intersecting bodies and remeshes the whole thing into one light, closed solid. The output is a faceted 3D Print STL File for 3D printing, not an editable parametric model, which is exactly what a slicer wants.
