PLY, Stanford's Polygon File Format, is a favourite of MeshLab, CloudCompare and scientific mesh tools, a natural fit for a globe built from planetary data. The PLY Moon Globe carries NASA LRO LOLA heights for the Moon, or NASA MGS MOLA heights for Mars, with the diameter and height stretch chosen so craters and highlands stand out. A 15 mm flat at the south pole lets each moon model stand, and a ring stand comes as the second file. StarForge 3D Modeling Software also gives the pair as a 3D Print STL File set for 3D printing a desk or shelf display.
