COLLADA files from SketchUp, 3D Warehouse or older engines are verbose XML, while Wavefront OBJ opens almost anywhere. The DAE to OBJ Converter rewrites the Digital Asset Exchange geometry as OBJ inside the browser, free and with nothing uploaded. Blender, Maya and renderers can then take the model without COLLADA import quirks. Animation and scene hierarchy do not travel into OBJ. For 3D printing, the same DAE can become a 3D Print STL File in StarForge 3D Modeling Software.
