A crowned crane caught mid-stride, this bird sculpt shows a tall fan-shaped feather crest, a rounded wattle under the beak and a long curving neck. Every body feather is modeled in overlapping layers, from the neck down to the drooping tail. Two slender jointed legs end in long splayed toes with curved claws, one foot lifted forward in a natural walking pose. The expressive brow and large eyes give it a lively, slightly comic character. It suits a display shelf, a wildlife collection or a diorama of grassland animals, and it stands on its own legs without a base.
