Chacoan peccary standing square on four slender legs, sculpted with a long snout and a thick coat of coarse bristles. The body is stocky and rounded, with a short tail, upright furry ears and a heavy shoulder collar. Each leg ends in split hooves with small dewclaws, and the face has wrinkled cheeks, small eyes and a flat nostril disc. Chunky overlapping tufts cover the back and flanks.
